Frequently asked questions

Do I have to draw the chart myself?
No. You enter your entities and how they own or relate to each other, and EntityCloud draws the chart automatically. When the underlying data changes, the chart is already right the next time you open it.
Who is EntityCloud for?
Accountants, attorneys and family offices who track ownership and financial relationships across many related entities per client: holding companies, trusts, estates, real property and the people who own or control them.
Can I see a structure as of a past date?
Yes. Ownership carries effective dates, so a chart can be drawn as of any date from the same underlying data, with no second copy to keep in sync.
How is sensitive data like a tax ID handled?
Tax identifiers are encrypted, masked by default with an explicit reveal action, and excluded from exports and charts unless deliberately opted into. They never appear on any page reachable without signing in.
Can I restrict what a team member sees?
Yes, a team member can be restricted to specific client families, and made read-only. A restricted view never shows a hole where a hidden relationship would be. It discloses that something is hidden without naming or counting it.
What happens if I go over my plan's entity limit?
You can't create the next entity until you upgrade or free up room. Nothing you've already built is ever hidden, locked from viewing, or blocked from export. Reads are always free.
Is there a demo I can look at?
Yes, a live demo chart built from a fabricated family, not a real client.
Can a client see their own structure without emailing us?
Yes. Set your client up with their own organization, linked to your firm, and invite their people in, read-only or not, to some or all of it. You can carry their entities on your own plan or let them pay for their own. For a one-off, send a shared chart link instead.
We already track hundreds of entities in a spreadsheet. How do we get them in?
Paste them into a spreadsheet-style grid, or import a CSV and fix any row in place before anything is saved. The same grid edits hundreds of existing entities or relationships at once.
Can I try a restructuring before it happens?
Yes. A scenario sandbox is a private copy of the structure you can change freely, then commit back when it's real. A merger, name change or split can be recorded as one dated action, previewed first, with a step chart showing how the deal flows.
Can I add fields the app doesn't have built in?
Yes, custom fields can be added per account. Mark one sensitive and it gets the same encrypted, masked treatment a tax ID does.
What formats can I export to?
Excel, SVG, PNG, JPG and PDF, depending on the page. The entity one-pager and full structure charts both support the complete set, and a deal's step chart also exports as a 16:9 PNG sized for a slide.
Can I share a chart with someone who doesn't have an account?
Yes. A saved chart can get a share link that anyone can open without signing in. It always shows the current structure, never includes a tax ID, can carry an expiry date, and can be revoked at any time.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. Charts pan and pinch-zoom on a touchscreen, and entity pages and lists are laid out for a phone's width.
Can I see who changed what, and when?
Yes. Every entity and relationship create, update and deletion is recorded automatically, with who made the change and when, on your account's activity feed and each entity's own history.
